Sad News from Mombasa as Former Mayor Ahmed Mwidani Passes On

Mombasa County gubernatorial aspirant Hon. Suleiman Shahbal has today announced the passing on of former mayor Ahmed Mwidani at Pandya memorial hospital after a short illness according to a Facebook post on his page.

“My deepest condolences to the family of Former Mayor Ahmed Mwidani. Mayor Mwidani was my great advisor and supporter particularly in 2013 during my campaigns. His advice was invaluable to me,” the post read.

Shahbal added that the late played a key role in leadership especially during the post-independence era. He concluded by writing that Mwidani was a real gentleman and a man of the people. Mwidani was one of the most powerful and longest serving mayors of Mombasa city.

The late also worked during the Moi and Kenyatta regimes and was once a KANU youth winger. Mwidani was however faced with financial problems during his final years as mayor forcing the council to sell Uhuru gardens at 55 million to settle wage bill deficits.

May he rest in peace.
