Political leaders from the Coast Region have drummed up their support for ODM leader Raila Odinga's presidential bid, and despite submitting his application, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has bowed out of the race to support Raila.
The Coast MPs speaking during a meeting that brought together ODM delegates last week urged Raila to ensure that he appoints Joho to a senior position if he wins the presidency next year.
As quoted by the Standard on Thursday, the leaders lauded Joho for the decision adding that his political track record is illustrious, and can deliver a win for Raila and the ODM team next year.
Likoni MP Mishi Mboko stated that Joho has been politically mentored by Raila, and he is the best person who can take over from the ODM boss when he completes his term.
"Joho will not exit from the political scene, particularly the presidential election. If Raila is not there Joho will be around. He is the man to watch if Raila is not there as his deputy,” said Mboko.
Her remarks were supported by Pwani University Lecturer and a political analyst Halim Shauri who argued that Joho's 'If it is Raila, it is me' comment shows that he will remain close to Raila in 2022, and in turn take part in Coastal politics probably as the kingpin.
