Today, The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati has issues new directions on the coming general elections. He has said that there was need to give the directions in preparation for the next general elections to be carried out appropriately.
He said that they launched the election operations in the month of 15th June 2021, and urged that it is available on the website. This outlines the key timelines of the elections calendar of the country. He said he has set the obligations to political parties, engaging them to sensitize key stake holders and also the issues affecting the political parties.
The IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has extended the time for political parties to conduct their party primaries.
Initially, the time set for political parties to submit the names of the candidates was 14th March 2022 in preparation for elections in August. The dates have now been changed to 19th January 2022. This means that the days have been extended from 30 days to 109 days whereby the deadline for submission will be on 26th May 2022.
The political parties have been given more time to resolve disputes before they submit their appropriate candidates.
