Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Simba Arati has opened up, a day after engaging his South Mugirango counterpart Sylvannus Osoro in a fist fight.
The two fought at the funeral ceremony of Abel Gongera, father to Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi in Kisii, in the presence of Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Arati on Tuesday revealed that the faceoff doesn't mean anything about his personal relationship with Osoro, who he referred to as a "small man" before the fight broke out.
He also told the Standard that people were hired to heckle him at the function, hence the noises that were being made as he addressed the mourners.
“Popularity is not about hiring goons to go heckle leaders in funerals and other public functions. Let us tolerate each other and avoid assaulting fellow leaders,” he is quoted.
Osoro, on his side, has regretted the incident, but said that he had to stop Arati from attacking Ruto, after the ODM lawmaker accused the DP spoiling the region's image by associating with corrupt leaders.
He now claims that plans are being made to have him arrested, adding that he is ready to be arrested so that the truth about the attacks on Ruto can come out.
“I know they are planning to arrest me but that will allow us have a sober debate and reveal the intentions behind their attack on the Deputy President," he is quoted.
