Siaya gubernatorial seat has attracted several influential leaders in the county. The leaders are keen on succeeding the incumbent Siaya governor Cornell Rasanga who is serving his last term in office. One of the potential gubernatorial candidate is Siaya senator James Orengo.
Today the vocal senator intensified his grassroot gubernatorial campaigns. The senator conducted an empowerment program of Siaya traders umbrella organization Sacco in Siaya market. This is part of his strategy of popularizing his gubernatorial bid at grassroot levels.
The accomplished lawyer said that this program will benefit over 10,000 women in the Sacco. He also said that they are committed in modernizing the market. The empowerment program took place at Alego Usonga constituency. The senator was accompanied by local area member of parliament Hon. Samuel Atandi.
The senate minority leader is facing stiff competition from two candidates in the Siaya gubernatorial race. The two leaders includes Ugunja member of parliament Hon. Opiyo Wandanyi and former police spokesperson Mr. Charles Owino. Both leaders are member of ODM party and strong supporters of former prime minister Raila Odinga.
