Former Mwingi Central Member of Parliament (MP) Joe Mutambu was involved in a grisly road accident which saw his car roll several times along Mwingi-Thika highway on Sunday night, December 5.

According to sources, the vocal politician was travelling back to Nairobi after visiting River Enziu tragedy scene in the company of Kalonzo Musyoka and Governor Charity Ngilu alongside other leaders.

It was further reported that his driver died on the spot, while the Mutambu and other three passengers survived with unknown degree of injuries and are currently admitted at Matuu level four hospital.
OCPD Mwingi East Joseph Yakan confirmed the accident noting that the car collided with a tractor and more details will follow in the course of the day.
The accident now adds on the River Enziu tragedy which left more than 30 people dead after bus ferrying passengers to a wedding ceremony capsized in the swollen river while attempting to cross over.
