Deputy President William Ruto faced hostility on Wednesday during his ongoing 3-day tour of Nyanza region.

A section of residents at Kondele in Kisumu threw stones and shouted him down when he made a stopover to address a crowd which had gathered at the popular area.

They dismissed Ruto's speech and expressed their support for an election pledge made by ODM leader Raila Odinga of offering Sh6000 to poor families if elected during 2022 general election.

"Six thousands! Six thousands!" they shouted as Ruto tried to promote his wheelbarrow and bottom up economics.

Director of communications in the DP office Emmanuel Talam condemned the incident and mocked the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila which they have been claiming was to bring peace and cohesion in the country.

"I thought the HANDSHAKE was to end political violence. Kondele violence is saying something to the contrary #Mawe Democratic Movement #Azimio La Fujo," he tweeted.

Former Dagoretti North parliamentary seat aspirant Kiigen Koech condemned those who hurled stones at Ruto's motorcade and accused them of being intorelant and political immature.

He said it was wrong for them to bring chaos to DP's rally noting Raila, who hails from Nyanza, was welcomed warmly when he visited Ruto's Eldoret backyard.

"The people of KISUMU are proving their INTOLERANCE and IMMATURITY by throwing stones and chanting "6 thousand, 6 thousand" at a WILLIAM RUTO gathering," Koech tweeted.

"Do they think that the people of ELDORET lacked STONES when RAILA ODINGA visited? Very unfortunate!" added the youthful politician who hails from Kericho.

However, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot said despite the challenges they were hopeful they will 'swim in the lake' and ensure Ruto gets a huge chunk of votes from Nyanza region.
