Here is what Governor Okoth Obado shared on his official facebook page a day after president Uhuru Kenyatta promise to revival the Sugar factories!
"In 2018 President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed me together with governors Wycliffe Oparanya and Anyang' Nyong'o to lead the National Sugar Task Force Committee.
Our main assignment was to look into permanent ways of tackling the challenges facing the sugar industry.
The Committee reviewed the policy of the industry and checked on the emerging challenges facing it.
It is in this regard that President Uhuru's government allocated Shs.1.5B towards sugar factory maintenance and payments to famers arrears.
We thank the President for this gesture as it will motivate the sugarcane stakeholders in the country. Thank you and may God bless you all.
Let's wait and see what happens in the coming months if the Sugar factories come back to limelight".
