Big Win For Raila, Joho as Oparanya Set To Shelve His Presidential Ambition For a Less Powerful Seat

A new twist has emerged on who will become the ODM's party presidential flagbearer in 2022 as the Kakamega County governor Wycliffe Ombetsa Oparanya is likely to make shelve his presidential ambition to vie as an MP.

As reported by the Daily Nation today on Sunday, April 11th, the outspoken governor might vie as a member of Parliament for Butere constituency to become the prime minister if at all the constitutional changes through BBI would be passed. BBI proposed that for a person become bma prime minister or a deputy prime minister he or she must be an MP.

This means that only Raila Odinga and Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho would face each other during the party's Nomination to determine its flagbearer. The reports have also indicated that Oparanya's alleged change in tune might be influenced by the rumoured coalition talks between DP Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
