ODM Goes For The Seat Left Vacant After The Death Of Jubilee Lawmker Amid Coalition Talks

Orange Democratic Movement party will be fielding candidate in the upcoming Mahoo ward by-election. Raila's party has already invited Interested and qualified individuals to apply for consideration.

ODM has set the 4th day of October as the deadline for submission of the applications. The by-elections shall be held on the 26th day of December 2021.

Mahoo ward seat was left vacant after the death of Taita Taveta county Assembly minority leader Hon. Sagurani who died on Tuesday, August 17 while undergoing treatment at Pandya Hospital in Mombasa.

Sagurani was elected on the ruling Jubilee party becoming one of the few MCAs who were elected outside the dominant Orange Democratic Movement party.

By going for the seat, ODM is setting a stage for a battle with the ruling party which they currently enjoy a good working relationship with, the two parties are currently working on a coalition agreement ahead of 2022. Jubilee is yet to declare whether it will be fielding a candidate for the by-election. Whether the two will agree to field a joint candidate is not yet clear.
