As their terms near expiry IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, Commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye are planning for their exit. The team will give chance to Cherera and her team and this is making President William Ruto’s camp is unhappy with this. When Chebukati leaves office, the vice chairperson Juliana Cherera is expected to lead the electoral body but the President’s coalition believes that this should not happen. Commissioners Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyangaya, Francis Wanderi and Irene Masit bitterly disagreed with Chebukati over the past election results.

IEBC is now set for a bleak future as its fate is before the national assembly as Chebukati’s exit may lead to more fights. Before retiring Chebukati, Molu and Guliye are expected to go on a terminal leave. Ruto and his team believe that Cherera and her team worked with the influence of pressure from other quarters leading to the fallout in the commission. That is why they want her to also go home with her team.

Cherera and her team were appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in September 2021. Cherera and her team are expected to serve Kenyans until September 2027. However, the future is not known as the current administration is uncomfortable with them.
