Kanini Kega Blasted as Kieni Residents Decry Neglection as Famine Strikes

Kieni MP Kanini Kega.

Kieni residents in Nyeri county have come out to hit hard at their member of parliament after famine and hunger stroke due to the ongoing drought across the country.

Through a report aired by one of the local TV station, Kieni residents have said that no leader has come to their aid, accusing Kanini Kega of leading Raila campaigns while they are deeply suffering.

They have termed lack of sufficient rainfall as the major cause of the famine. The long rain that occurs in April was inadequate and the farmers didn't harvest anything.

The locals have also narrated how major irrigation projects have stalled despite the sky-reaching promises they were showered by their leaders during the campaigns. They have called for the intervention from well-wishers to salvage them from the jaws of hunger.

"Our leaders promised us to initiate irrigation projects but they are now busy campaigning. They are now warming up to come up with new lies as we approach the 2022 polls. We are asking well-wishers to intervene and give us relief food," said one of the locals.

Kenyans have also expressed their thoughts after Inooro TV shared the news on social media. Below are screenshots showing some of the reactions;

Kieni constituency is one of the semi arid areas located in Nyeri county. Kanini Kega is the current member of parliament serving in his second term. The MP also doubles as the chairman of the budget committee in parliament. He is among the lawmakers who are leading Raila campaigns in the Mt Kenya region.
