Opinion: Why Maina Njenga Could Be the Next Senator For Laikipia County

The general elections are nearing and electioneering campaigns have currently taken center stage. Political aspirants are trying to woo every Tom, Dick and Harry for their support.

Among the 47 counties, Laikipia County is currently a hot bed of politics as the well-known Maina Njenga eyes for senatorial seat in the county against Ambassador Roba, Henry Mbuthia Kimani, and Muthui Mwenja.

Maina Njenga seems to be the darling of the crowd as he has been keeping in touch with the locals in as far as the most remote area of Laikipia.

The indefatigable Maina Njenga has been involved in peace keeping missions and visiting victims of the recent attacks in Laikipia. In most of his meetings, he reminds residents of his clarion call.

The other aspirants have become spectators as they watch Njenga's supporters throng every meeting. His bloggers also work extra hard on social media to preach his 'gospel.'

He seems to have cast his net well and hopes for his triumph are high. Maina Njenga unlike his opponents decided to run full speed in campaigns until the last day elections.

A fortnight ago, he risked his life and visited Mbogoini and Area18 where banditry is common and three people had been recently killed.

He seems to be the Messiah of the locals as they hope that if he wins, security will be restored. He urged his supporters to avoid foul play against his opponents to allow a fair and peaceful competition.

During Raila's visits to Laikipia county, Maina Njenga welcomed him and he seemed to be Raila's preferred candidate for Laikipia. The other aspirants were nowhere to be seen during the ODM leader's visit.
