This year's Mashujaa Day celebrations will be held at Wang'uru stadium, Mwea constituency in Kirinyaga county. Different leaders across the political divide are expected to grace this event on Wednesday, 20th October.
Deep political divisions that have persisted in Mt Kenya region following the fall out between president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, forced Kirinyaga leaders to hold peaceful rallies. The rallies named as 'Kirinyaga Kwanza' were led by Interior security PS, Karanja Kibicho, and Kirinyaga women representative, Wangui Ngirici. The rallies have been held across the four constituencies in Kirinyaga county.
Today, Sunday October 17, marked the end of Kirinyaga Kwanza meetings. Two functions were held in Mwea constituency where the Mashujaa Day celebrations will be marked.
During these two final rallies, PS Kibicho and Andrew Ngirici splashed cash to hundreds of residents who turned out for the functions. The two leaders said that the money was just a small token for lunch to those who had gathered.
At one point, PS Kibicho was recorded telling the crowd to brave the scorching sun because there was a reward coming from him and Ngirici. He added that he was having a few dollars to add to Ngirici and no one would go home empty handed.
"I know the sun is hot but you should not worry. My brother Ngirici has told you that he has dollars to give you. I also want to tell you that I will add a few dollars to ensure that everyone gets something. We are the ones who called you here and thats why we are giving you some lunch," alluded Kibicho.
