President President William Ruto and his predecessor Mr Uhuru Kenyatta are scheduled to share a platform today Monday, November 28th 2022 to discuss regional peace. This will be Uhuru's first time meeting President William Samoei Ruto since he handed over power at a colourful ceremony held at the Kasarani stadium in Nairobi on 13th September.
In the scheduled meeting, President William Ruto and his former boss Uhuru Kenyatta are expected to open the third Inter-Congolese Consultations of the Nairobi Peace Process. During his swearing in Ceremony, Ruto had appointed Uhuru Kenyatta as his peace envoy for the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa, which made the former president continue chairing regional peace interventions on behalf of the Government of Kenya in Ethiopia and the embattled Democratic Republic of Congo.
Today's meeting will taking place at the Safari Park Hotel where Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye will also be part of those that will officiate the programme. Ndayishimiye is the chairman of the East African Community (EAC).
The last time President Ruto and Mr Kenyatta shared a platform was during Dr Ruto’s swearing-in ceremony as the country’s fifth president on September 13. In the recently conducted general elections, Uhuru Kenyatta had endorsed the candidature of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential flagbearer Hon Raila Odinga.
The support did not bear fruits as Ruto was declared the winner of the hotly contested race. This is after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati on August 15, 2022, declared that Ruto won the election with 7,176, 141 votes, which is 50.49% of the total votes cast against Raila’s 6, 942, 930 votes (48.85%).
