President William Samoei Ruto on Thursday presided over the official opening of the National Assembly as well as the Senate in a joint sitting that was held at the National Assembly.
The head of State was accompanied by his deputy Hon Rigathi Gachagua, Chief Justice Hon Martha Koome, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, and various religious leaders among other dignitaries who were at the Parliament buildings.
However, there was a moment of excitement after National Assembly Speaker Hon Moses Wetabguka acknowledged the presence of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati.
The IEBC chairman was sitting in the public gallery together with former Chief Justice Maraga. When Moses Wetangula mentioned his name, there was excitement among the members of Parliament who looked at him while clapping.
Wafula Chebukati has been a unique figure, especially during the election period. He has been criticized and praised in equal measure by all the leading coalitions with the Azimio coalition accusing him of bungling the election while the Kenya Kwanza praises him for conducting a free fair and credible election.
