Opinion: Why Is It Hard To Sell Raila Odinga In Mount Kenya

The mountain region is currently one of the most popular vote- gathering regions, with every presidential candidate coveting it. Every election season, the region is estimated to have around four million votes that count.

President Uhuru Kenyatta who is from the region has thrown his support behind Raila Odinga, who appears to have only one percent of the region's support.

However, we should ask ourselves why this is the case. According to the appearances, Deputy President Willam Ruto began early campaigns that enabled him to train the mountain people to read from his script.

Ruto was unquestionably the mountain king by the time elections were held a year previously as he had the support of several popular members of parliament from the region.

Raila was attempting to consolidate power through the Building Bridges Initiative at the time, which has now backfired, leaving him with no choice but to try puersuade the mountain area otherwise.

A powerful UDA politician from Mount Kenya ditches the Hustler Nation for the Azimio la Umoja affiliated party, dealing major blow to Deputy President Willam Ruto.
