No doubt the people of Busia, Kenya, regarded Okiyah Omtatah as the people's protector and elected him to represent them in the Kenyan Senate because of his history of taking on the government and successfully blocking some of its actions.
Okiyah Omtatah, newly elected to the Senate, continues to use the legal system to challenge policies he considers harmful to Nigeria.
There is a current initiative by the government of Kenya led by president William Ruto to tax Kenyans for using the E-citizen platform, Kenyans are billed Ksh.50 for the service and Omtatah has observed that it is unlawful. He has petitioned the Milimani law courts to halt the change and has urged his fellow Kenyans to take action against the government's decision.
In spite of his new position as a senator, Omtatah insists he would continue to serve as an advocate for the public by filing six lawsuits in that capacity since being elected.
