Uhuru Kenyatta back on social media after reactivating Twitter and Facebook accounts

After an abrupt departure from social media three years ago, former president Uhuru Kenyatta has returned.

Mr. Kenyatta has reactivated his official Twitter and Facebook accounts under the handle @4thPresidentKE.

The sudden deactivation of Mr. Kenyatta's Twitter and Facebook sites in March 2019 was justified, according to his then-chief of staff Nzioka Waita, as a means of facilitating the implementation of corrective recovery measures.

“On account of unauthorized access to the official social media handles of H.E the President of the Republic of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, all official social media handles for the President have been temporarily suspended to allow for the necessary remedial measures to be undertaken,” Mr Waita said.

However, Uhuru revealed his decision to stop using social media in November 2020, claiming that trolls had driven him offline.

Online bullies also victimized Mr. Kenyatta.

“You see I left Twitter and other social media sites because I saw they are full of insults and nothing constructive. You sit there reading the comments instead of sleeping. ‘Oh, what have they said?” he said.
