Taking to her social media on Tuesday, nominated senator Millicent Omanga, has accused the Mps in the National Assembly for shooting down HELB bill that resembled what was proposed in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that they had championed.
"ODM and Jubilee party MPs in the National Assembly who have been making noise in support of BBI today shot down a bill seeking to reduce HELB loan repayment period and interest rates charged on the loan; the same items BBI purported to change. You now know the hypocrites!"
The bill had proposed to increase the grace period from 1 year to 5yrs and also decrease the interest rate from 4 per cent p.a to 2 per cent p.a.
Additionally, the bill sought to scrap the yearly fine if a graduate fails to pay a certain amount of money yearly.
