Deputy President William Ruto has been criticized for his generosity with many questioning his source of income that has made him so comfortable to give more than he earns in terms of salary. His political competitors claim that he is among the most corrupt government officials.
Well, back in 2011 such allegations were there and Dp Ruto defended himself. From a Facebook post dated December 5, 2011, Ruto says he was among those who sponsored Raila’s 2007 election campaigns but nobody questioned his source of wealth.
“Marafiki, many have asked about my wealth and source of funds to run a presidential campaign. This is not the first time m involved in a presidential campaign. In 2002 I was in UK’s an 2007 in Tinga’s. 1)For the record I helped raise half the funds used in 2007 campaign. Then nobody asked where we got the money…” Wrote Ruto
In the post, Ruto also defended his “giving nature” as what characterizes him. He wrote that all his declaration forms showed he had not stollen anything or else he would be rotting in jail.
“If I had acquired anything from the friends I have I surely would be rotting in jail” He Wrote “Many people believe erroneously that you must be poor merely because your parents were!” he added.
Ruto, I the post, recalled the times he used to sell chicken at a railway crossing near his home and he even build his father a house using his university boom and paid fees for his siblings.
“God has been kind to me and thro hard work and determination I have something. Those who are where I was 25 years ago selling chicken for 11 shillings by railway crossing should know and believe that like WSR they too can become something.” He wrote.
He emphasized that his desire to run for presidency in 2011 because “I understand what hustlers go thro and can assemble the will to give a real chance to the ordinary Kenyan to be something. Guys in this election we will prove that even the children of paupers can be something in Kenya!” he wrote
