Bigwigs Expected At Raila's Rally, Uhuru To Fail To Attend Even After The Day Was Moved For His Sake

The Azimio La Umoja culmination rally will be held at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani. The 60,000 capacity stadium will host Raila's allies and associates on the big day the ODM leader is expected to announce his fifth attempt to be president.

According to the Chief organiser, ODM Deputy Party leader Governor Oparanya, all major political parties that are friends with ODM have been invited to the 10th December event.

All the One Kenya Alliance, OKA principals and a delegation from each of their parties have been given invitation letters. Also on the list of guests are Mt Kenya region governors and the PNU party headed by Agriculture CS Peter Munya. NARC party leader Charity Ngilu has also been invited.

The organisers of the event envisioned the attendance of the head of state Uhuru Kenyatta. They even moved the date to the 10th from the 9th to accommodate Uhuru. This is because Uhuru is supposed to attend the independence day celebrations in Tanzania on Thursday. Oparanya has however confirmed that Uhuru will not attend regardless.

It is is not clear whether his absentia in the meeting is political (the executive has been known to avoid endorsing a candidate because of possibilities of it being counterproductive) or unavoidable.

Eyes will also be on the One Kenya Alliance principals particularly ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi. Mudavadi's party members have recently castigated Kalonzo for inviting ODM in Wiper's NDC and vowed not to savour any links with Raila.

Raila is expected to unveil a coalition with the name Azimio La Umoja as it was already reserved by the Registrar of Political Parties.
