Meru Will Only Commit To Regional Party Where Community Interests Will Be Prioritized, Titus Says

Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu has said Meru County leaders led by Governor Kiraitu Murungi will engage all those seeking the position of Presidency in next year’s elections in order to secure the best interests for the community.

DG Ntuchiu clarified that yesterday, Governor Kiraitu at the request of former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga convened a meeting of professionals and politicians from Meru County, where the former premier sought to explain his agenda to them and demonstrate what the Meru community stands to gain should he clinch presidency.

“It is worth noting that Governor Kiraitu is a greatly and widely respected name in Kenyan politics and the kingpin of Mt. Kenya politics whose political counsel, guidance and even support is greatly sought after,” he said.

He observed that three days before yesterday, the Governor was invited on another consultative meeting by President Uhuru Kenyatta at statehouse to discuss matters of national importance.

“We remain open to listen to and engage with all presidential candidates as we prepare to officially unveil our own regional political party which we shall launch in the coming weeks, and is expected to be a big political movement in Mt. Kenya East and beyond,” added the DG.

He added that Meru County, has not committed to any party that is not their own and where Meru community interests will not be given prominence.

He pointed out ODM has its shareholders mainly in Nyanza, while UDA which enjoys some popularity in Mt. Kenya has shareholding drawn mainly from the Rift Valley which is why Meru and Mt. Kenya East people, need their own regional political vehicle.
