Daring Murkomen Reveals Gideon Moi's Initial Plan For Ruto As RiftValley Rivalry Escalates

Deputy President William Ruto's most dependable voting bloc is the Rift Valley region where the Jubilee Party garnered close to 96 per cent of total votes cast in 2013 and 2017. However, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi seemingly stands as a stumbling block challenging Ruto's forays into the region.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen while speaking in Baringo county during a rally, revealed the plans Gideon had for Ruto as soon as he got reelected into the Senate for his second term.

Murkomen told the residents that the son of the former President Daniel Moi told him President Uhuru Kenyatta had made an assurance of an endorsement for the presidency once he retires.

He, therefore, told Murkomen he has plans to consolidate the entire Kalenjin community to back him and urged the outspoken Senator to tell Ruto to suspend his ambitions for the top seat and support him first.

"Once he stepped foot in Nairobi after being officiated as a second term Senator for Baringo County, he called me aside to inform me about his political plans. He intimated he would be vying for the High Office and that I should help him to consolidate the Kalenjin votes," Murkomen disclosed as quoted by the Nation.

Short-changed

The Senator continued that he was surprised to hear Gideon will be defending his seat for the third time. He insinuated Mr Moi has been short-changed by Uhuru and that he should join Kenya Kwanza Alliance and support Ruto until he finishes his two terms then the region can focus on him.

"I am now astonished to hear he is seeking reelection in Baringo. He has been dillydallying and no one knows his true intentions anymore or which side he is supporting," he added.

Gideon's re-involvement in the Baringo seat has taken UDA back to the drawing board because they had already fielded a candidate to replace him in Senate after he declared he would not vie. Ruto also risks loosing a chunk of the Rift Valley votes to Gideon owing to his support for the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
