Hon Kipchumba Murkomen, who is the current Senator for Elgeyo-Marakwet county, and also a close ally to Deputy President William Samoei Ruto ignited a hot debate online when he posted this over what DP Ruto promised the sex workers at Mtito Andei, Makueni County.(Screenshot from video clip)
"Hustler 1vs17. And they met chief hustler and they asked him 'Sir what shall we do to stop commercial sex work?' He replied 'form a new Sacco an i will give you start up capital. From now you will be freed and go and do it no more.' When the AZIMIO La Pharisees and Sadducees saw it they were enraged asking each other 'why does he associate himself with poor sinners?'" He posted on his Facebook page.
It's remembered that one of the sex workers called Agnes in Makueni County talked fearlessly before DP Ruto over the great challenges they are passing in shameful work. She then humbly asked the Deputy President to empower them so that they may start legitimate businesses.
Perhaps, Ruto was touched by the story, and asked Agnes and other sex workers to form Sacco, and he will give them 1 million shillings. His post attracted several comments from Kenyans, majority of applauded DP Ruto for recognising the suffering ones in the society.
