Ex-Governor Mike Sonko Breaks Silence on The Bus Which Plunged Into a Flooded River in Mwingi

Former Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has broken his silence over the school bus which sunk in flooded River Enziu in Mwingi, Kitui County.

The bus which had over 30 occupants at the time of the incident plunged into the river as the driver tried to cross over. According to reports, the passengers were members of Catholic church choir and were headed to a wedding ceremony of one of their colleagues.

Sonko took to the social media to caution Kenyans from walking, driving or riding on flooded waters.

"If it's flooded, forget it. Never drive, walk, or ride through floodwaters," he wrote.

The ex-governor expounded that driving on floodwaters is dangerous and it's just a matter of minutes before the vehicle loses traction. According to him, a light car can only withstand floodwaters up to 15cm and any levels more than than can be disastrous.

He further warned that floodwaters may seem calm but in real sense might be deeper and faster.
