Babu Owino Declares Countrywide Demonstrations On Thursday, All Roads to Be Blocked

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili popularly know as Babu Owino has now declared a national-wide over unpaid salaries to the BOM teachers in the country.

Mr. Owino has been calling on the government to pay teachers employed by Board of Management (BOM), who have gone without their salaries for months.

Owino is among various youth parliamentarians under the banner Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA) who have vowed to fight for the BOM teachers until they are paid their dues.

In a post on his Facebook account, Babu Owino declared that on Thursday, BOM teachers should come out to demonstrate for their unpaid salaries.

"BOM Teachers demonstrations across the country will take place on Thursday from 6am to 11pm. All BOM Teachers must attend the demos and all roads in the country must be blocked. Further direction on how to conduct the demos will be given on Wednesday during my press release at 10am. We are begging the police to have enough Teargas and Rungus. Teargas pills will be provided," said Babu Owino.

In early August, Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang called on the BOM teachers employed in public schools to submit their details for verification so that payments can be processed.

However, even after the process being completed, the teachers have not been paid yet.

Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda revealed that verification of the BOM teacher's details was completed long ago but no one has yet been paid.

"The latest information is that the list of BOM teachers has been verified and 43,000 are due to be paid. The funds have already been cleared for release,'' she pointed out as quoted by Standard Digital.

Further, she noted that even after President Uhuru Kenyatta intervention to have the BOM teachers paid, nothing has been done.

"It is more than a month since the president ordered these teachers to be paid. It is really unfortunate that to date no tangible excuse can be given as to why they have not been paid,'' added Lesuuda as quoted by Standard Digital.
