Kericho county assembly speaker Dominic Rono was today dealt a huge blow by the county assembly representatives after they overwhelmingly threw out his request to be bought a bulletproof vehicle. Taking to Facebook, Kapsoit MCA Paul Chirchir popularly known as Tarimbo said buying the speaker the vehicle was not a priority.
The MCA's voted to have the 12million which had been budgeted for the vehicle be directed to the health sector. The speaker had made the request citing the poor state of the vehicle he has been using.
"Today I wish to applaud the members of Kericho County Assembly who supported our proposal to replace the 12 million request by the Speaker to purchase a Bulletproof V8 vehicle for Slaying and running around and directed that the funds be directed to the health sector. Your resounding vote is a reminder that you continue to put the interests of the people first," Tarimbo said.
The request by the speaker has caused uproar in social media, he has been condemned for being selfish especially in a period like this when the third wave of COVID-19 is ravaging the country. Kericho county is among the counties with minimal ICU beds and just days ago it lost its deputy governor to the virus. It was expected that all the leaders would rush to improve the health sector to ensure no more fatalities are recorded.
