'I No Longer Peg My Hopes Of Being Elected Governor To Ruto' Ngirici Now Reveals

Purity Ngirici, a Kirinyaga Woman Representative, has stated that she has abandoned her initial belief that Deputy President William Ruto was a friend. Ngirici was a close ally of Ruto's and the face of his UDA party in Kirinyaga until he joined forces with governor Anne Waiguru, which infuriated the leader.

As a result, she has stopped attending Ruto's rallies and now claims to have retreated to listen to her constituents before making an announcement. She stated that she has given up on the hope of Ruto assisting her in unseating Waiguru and has decided to go it alone.

Ngirici, Waiguru's main rival, told The Standard that she has realized she cannot rely on Ruto and is now relying solely on God and her people.

"I no longer pin my hopes for governorship on Ruto. I completely rely on God and the people of Kirinyaga," she told the paper in an interview.

She also stated that the days of investing heavily in the popularization of the party in her county, on which she spent millions, are long gone.

Ngirici stated that she has learned her lesson and will never be seen going around the country endorsing Ruto's presidential bid for the following year. She told the paper that she will only focus on her people and her own campaigns now that Ruto has taught her a hard lesson.

"You will never hear or see me climbing a campaign truck in order to conduct presidential campaigns." "I will focus here (Kirinyaga), and that is why I will attend his (Ruto's) meeting in the county on Sunday, primarily because it is within my jurisdiction and area of representation," she said.

She went on to say that Ruto has made no efforts to improve her situation or address her complaints. Waiguru came to Ruto from the ruling Jubilee Party, where she was campaigning for ODM leader Raila Odinga, Ruto's main opponent in 2022.
