Setback to Raila as Kikuyu Elders Neglect Uhuru's Man & Endorse Ruto Ally For Nyandarua Seat

August's general election is rapidly approaching, and politicians are formulating strategies to ensure their inclusion in the next government. Alignments, party formation, and alliance formation are just a few of the activities that have dominated the political arena. Nyandarua politics is expected to take a new direction following the endorsement of Faith Gitau, the county's current woman representative, as the county's third governor by a section of Kikuyu Elders. Faith is a close ally of the deputy president and will run for governor of Nyandarua on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

At a ceremony held on Saturday, 22nd at Chakareri primary school in Oljororok constituency, the elders, led by Thuku Watuthu, agreed to support Gitau's candidacy, describing her as the best person to steer Nyandarua's interests.

A group of women dressed in traditional Kikuyu garb also endorsed Gitau's candidacy for governor. As was customary in the Kikuyu culture, the women blessed the woman representative with four ululations.

This is a significant setback for Raila Odinga and the handshake team as a whole. The majority of Kenyans expected the elders to support the current governor, Francis Kimemia, who has been advocating for the Azimio la Umoja in the Mount Kenya region.

The elders' decision also provides a significant boost to William Ruto and the entire UDA party team. Gitau will now be one step ahead of the competition as she conducts her campaigns throughout the county.
