The race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as kingpin in Mt Kenya region has been complicated by emergence of different factions in the vast and vote rich region.
Contenders for the regional kingpin include Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, Chama Cha Kazi boss Moses Kuria, Governor Mwangi Wa Iria (Murang’a), former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri (The Service Party leader) and his successor Peter Munya.Also in the mix of succeeding president Kenyatta as official region's kingpin are National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, former Kiambu County Governor William Kaboko and former Gatanga Mp Peter Kenneth.
The region has an approximate of 6 Million votes across 11 counties. The votes are spread across Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Embu, Nyeri, Laikipia, Meru, Nakuru, Tharaka Nithi, Nyandarua and Kirinyaga counties.
An opinion poll was conducted on Twitter by kenyans.co.ke to know who is best placed to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as Mt Kenya kingpin. In the poll involved newly crowned Mt Kenya Unity Forum spokesperson Martha, Moses Kuria and Justin Muturi.
Results revealed that Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua is best suited to be Mt Kenya spokesperson. She got 57 percent of total votes. Karua was followed by Justin Muturi who garnered 25% support.
Gatundu South Member of Parliament Hon Moses Kuria came third with 17 percent.
