A section of Kirinyaga County residents have opposed President William Samoei Arap Ruto's administration move to increase taxes on alcohol starting October, 1st claiming they were not involved.
In a video posted by K24 TV, led by Kirinyaga County branch Chairman, the Mount Kenya bar operators vehemently opposed the Kenya Kwanza Alliance administration plan to increase excise duty on all alcoholic drinks by 6.3 per cent Starting from February 1.
According to the traders, the move by the government through the Kenya Revenue Authority, KRA will hurt their business rendering hundreds jobless against the spirit of what Kenya Kwanza stands for.
They urged both Kirinyaga County Governor, Anne Waiguru who is now the Chairperson for the Council of Governors, CoG and the National Government always to consider their views before such decisions are made.
