Matungu Constituency politics are on fire. Many political leaders are out to show their abilities and efforts to succeed the late MP Justus Murunga. There are many leaders who have shown interest in the seat, over 10 aspirants are in the race. Majority of these aspirants are independent candidates. Amongst the contestants are the Wife of the late Murunga who is running as independent candidate and CDF chairman Mr. Athuman Wangara who is also an independent candidate.
Aspirants who have are vying using political parties have received alot of support from their party leaders. ANC party is rallying behind Peter Nabulindo who came second in 2017 election after Murunga. The newly formed party, UDA is rallying behind Alex Lanya. Allies of William Ruto have camped in Matungu to drum for Alex Lanya.
Today ODM party leader Raila Odinga has stormed Matungu Constituency in style to campaign for ODM candidate David Were. The competition seems to tighten towards the final day. Secretary general Edwin Sifuna has expressed his satisfaction for Raila Odinga to visit the area. This may the chances of David Were winning the election basing on the popularity of Raila Odinga in Kenya.
