The President said "yangu kumi, ndugu yangu Ruto pia kumi", which loosely translates to (I will serve for two terms, five years each, and usher in DP William Ruto to lead for a similar period)
However, the narrative changed during the President's second and last term in office, especially after he started working with the ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The President and Raila had a handshake before they started working together as a team.
Promise revived by residents of Kirinyaga.
Kirinyaga residents have since reminded the President of the promise he made to his deputy.
In a viral video, the President was addressing a group of youths when he toured the county when a few individuals were heard reviving the "yangu kumi, Ruto kumi" promise

It is not clear whether President Uhuru will keep the promise or not. As it stands now, many Kenyans believe the President could support his handshake brother and not the DP.
More so, it has been revealed that youths in Kirinyaga are supporting DP Ruto's presidency. This has been revealed by the county boss, Governor Anne Waiguru
"If you listen to the youth they will tend to talk about UDA party, am listening to the ground because eventually they will tell you and it makes it easier for you to get there," she said
