"Respect Institutions" Kenyans React As Ruto Fires Back At NCIC For Banning 'Hatupangwingi'

After the NCIC outlawed the use of certain terms that politicians like to employ in political rallies, Deputy President William Ruto broke his silence on Friday. According to NCIC chairman Samwel Kobia, the terms are incendiary and should not be used.

The words include Sipangwingwi, a phrase popularized by the vice president's side, Kenya Kwanza, during campaign rallies.

Shortly after the ban, the DP posted a video clip of Sipangwingwi to his Twitter account.

His actions A cross-section of Kenyans expressed their opinions in the comments section, which elicited diverse emotions.

Some, like James, have urged Ruto to respect government-created institutions that perform certain functions.

James: Respect Institutions, what kind of leader are you?

Azimio youth: Amepangwa na NCIC na Kobia.

Others, on the other hand, appeared to agree with Ruto.

Saliva wangeci: What a wonderful time to drop the bombshell; let them round us all up.

Kate: Hatupangwingwi

The DP has long been critical of how state agencies have weaponized against him and his friends.

If elected president, Ruto promised to provide independent institutions the ability to fulfill their mandate during the UDA NDC last month.
