Breaking: Nairobi County to Have the First Female Governor After Friday's Ruling by the Court

Anne Kananu Mwenda will finally be the Nairobi county boss after the Court of Appeal ruled that former Nairobi county governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is no longer the county chief.

The court has noted that Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been out of office for more than 10 months and hence no longer legally qualified to play the role of the county chief.

This has since given the way fir Anne Kananu Mwenda to be sworn in making her the first female governor of the Kenyan capital city since the devolution came in.

"APPELLATE COURT rules that Sonko has been out of office for over 10 months and is no longer Nairobi Governor, paves way for Ann Kananu to be sworn in."Nation https://t.co/Y20cEAKWow

The Court of Appeal had temporarily stopped the swearing-in of Anne Kananu as the Nairobi Governor pending the hearing of the case that had been filed by former county chief Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

“In the interim, we grant orders of maintenance of the status quo, in order to preserve the subject matter of the application and intended appeal, pending delivery of the ruling on 22nd October 2021,” read the court ruling in July this year which stopped the lady from taking over.
