Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru has defended her seat very well since she refused to concede with the earlier results which were announced that Purity Wangui Ngirici was the winner.
Earlier on Purity Wangui Ngirici was declared the winner and Ann Waiguru could not accept the results. She raised her voice and said that there was vote rigging. Her voice was heard by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the votes were recounted.
In the second tallying governor Waiguru garnered 113,088 votes while Wangui Ngirici garnered 105,677 votes and therefore Anne Waiguru was declared the winner.
"From the foregoing, I, therefore, declare Anne Mumbi Waiguru the governor-elect of Kirinyaga county," the county returning officer announced.
Purity Ngirici stood with her independent party while Anne Waiguru stood with the UDA party. She was celebrated by the people of Kirinyaga for her winning and retaining her seat as the governor. Congratulations to Kirinyaga Governor-elect Anne Mumbi Waiguru.
