Although it's still too close to call, 2022 General Elections might be full of surprises and history might be rewritten. We have witnessed new political developments, some happening for the first time in the history of Kenya's politics. Projecting the current political status, there is a possibility of two major incidents which might go down in Kenya's political history.
Mt Kenya region politics
The region has for a long time voted as a bloc and has never failed to produce a strong presidential candidate. However, the region is currently divided and sends no signs of having a strong presidential aspirant. Although there has been unison meetings, the region might for the first time cast their votes in different baskets and back up leaders from other regions. They might also not produce a strong presidential candidate for 2022 all rather have a weak candidate, turning into 'flower girls'.
The Party leader Raila Odinga might for the first time battle for the party's presidential ticket. Business tycoon Jimi Wanjigi has declared his candidature in 2022 presidency via ODM ticket. He has challenged the party leader to face him in a free and fair nominations which he believes he will win.
Previously, Raila has been receiving direct nomination from the Party since 2007 when he first used the political outfit. This time round he must however have to battle it out.
The ODM Party leader has raced for Presidency since 1997 without success. The leader however stands high chances of clinching in power in 2022, an incident which could make history. With the current political trends, Raila can easily floor his opponents as he has slowly managed to penetrate Mt Kenya region where he only needs a small percentage of the votes. In the last General Elections, Raila managed only about 2% in Mt Kenya and only lost with a margin.
This means that if he manages just about 20% from the region which is possible owing to the fact that he has support from some Mt Kenya leaders including President Uhuru, he will win 2022 with a landslide and make history as the first President from Luo Nyanza.
