Current UDA Governor Waiguru, Kihara Almost Endorsed Me For President After Getting Upset With Uhuru- Sakaja

The chairperson of the council of governors Anne Mumbi Waiguru, who also serves as the Kirinyaga county governor, together with long serving Uhuru ally Anthony Kihara wanted to support someone else for the presidency in the place of Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2013 general elections.

The revelations emerged today during an interview with Citizen TV where the sitting Nairobi county governor Johnson Sakaja said that the duo almost settled on him for the country's presidency in 2013 after getting upset with the then deputy prime minister Uhuru Kenyatta.

It was said that Waiguru, Kihara and Sakaja were in a meeting in Muthaiga where they implored upon Uhuru to contest for the country's presidency. Uhuru was hesitant at first and took a long time consulting his family, a situation that upset Waiguru and Kihara who threatened Uhuru that they would endorse Sakaja. Uhuru later accepted.

“... But in the time he had taken, Anne Waiguru and Anthony (Kihara) were so upset they told him (Uhuru Kenyatta) ‘my friend if you are not ready we have another candidate, this Sakaja will be our candidate’ and he said ‘No, give me my 10 years’ and it was a journey," Sakaja said.
