The rivalry between the current governor of Kisii, James Ongwae, and the candidate of the Orange Democratic Movement for governor, Simba Arati, has been growing for a number of months.
Speaking in front of Fred Matiang'i, the interior cabinet secretary, yesterday, Simba Arati accused the county government of Kisii of passing rejected measures in an effort to escape with public funds.
In a statement released today, ODM Governor James Ongwae dismissed the accusations made by Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati. Speaking in local dialect, Ongwae said that the budget was passed on schedule and that it is for the 2022–2023 fiscal year, by which time he will not be the governor.
Even though he is currently the governor of ODM, Ongwae has advised Kisii residents not to vote for Simba Arati, who is running on the ODM ticket. Instead, he advises them to consider Chris Obure of Jubilee, Sam Ongeri of DAP-K, and Manson Oyongo of KNC, all of whom have experience and are members of the Azimio coalition.
