Strange Twist To Siaya Gubernatorial Race As Gumbo Running Mate Unexpectedly Pulls Out

Nicholas Odero Gumbo's running mate in the Siaya Gubernatorial race, ex-policeman Charles Owino Wahongo has pulled out of the race.

Wahongo's stepping out of the gubernatorial race has provided great respite for the candidacy of Senior Counsel James Aggrey Bob Orengo.

In a media statement, Wahongo has indicated that he never officially resigned from his job in the Police Service and was therefore at liberty to resume at any time. Whether there's any truth to the claim is of no consequence now.

The truth is that UDM Party Gubernatorial aspirant Nicholas Odero Gumbo who was posing a threat to the victory of the ODM Party candidate SC James Aggrey Orengo has now been neutralized. Without the support of Wahongo in Ugenya which is also Orengo's home turf and which traditionally votes alongside Ugunja, Gem, and Alego-Usonga Constituencies in the gubernatorial equation, Gumbo now remains with Rarieda and Bondo whose numerical force in the voter's register is inferior.

It is difficult to ascertain whether the former National Police Service Spokesperson, Charles Owino Wahongo, resigned from his job before delving into politics or not.

It is noteworthy, however, that both running mates for Gumbo and Orengo represented the larger constituency of Ugenya-Ugunja, Alego-Usonga, and Gem.

Second-time gubernatorial aspirant Nicholas Odero Gumbo posed the biggest challenge to Orengo's ascension to the Siaya County Governor's office.

Without the party support and with the voter numbers pulled from under him, Gumbo who was seen as a frontrunner in the race is now fully compromised.

Meanwhile, political pundits are reading a larger plot by the Orange Democratic Movement Party to contain Gumbo by first presenting Charles Owino Wahongo as a gubernatorial aspirant before he ditched his ambition and joined Gumbo as a running mate.
