Powerful ODM MP Facing Running Mate Dilemma As She Battles 5 Men In Governor Race

Even if she manages to scrap past the ODM nominations, Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua will be left with one big hurdle in her quest to become Governor.

Her choice of a running mate will be her make or break moment especially considering the ethnic composition of this border county.

With the county dominated by the Luhya and Iteso communities, Mutua faces a delicate balancing in her choice of a running mate.

An ethnic Kamba who is married in Busia, the MP's quest to succeed Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has somehow met some resistance with the natives rooting for "one of their own". Where does this leave this influential ODM lawmaker?

If she opts for a running mate Teso, Ojaamong's political base, the Luhya voting bloc will feel excluded in their own county. This will provide fodder to her political opponents.

Similarly, should she settle for a Luhya running mate, the Teso community will have every reason to complain that they have been isolated in their own county.

To strike a win-win formula for the two voting blocs, will be Mutua's biggest political headache. Though she enjoys close political relationship with the outgoing Governor, the MP should prepare for tough times ahead.

With senator Amos Wako, former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, Nambale lawmaker Sakwa Bunyasi, Ex- Chief Officer Dan Mogoria, former Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba also in the race, Mutua should ready herself for a major political showdown.
