When we talk about presidential bodyguards, people immediately think about the men in suits and dark glasses but that is just a section of them. These guys are normally many and are subdivided into units according to presidential bodyguards commanders. The ones who swiftly swung into action while president Uhuru Kenyatta was giving a speech in Lamu were the Special Recce Squad Unit. These are people who guards the presidential space like no man's business.
According to VIP security expert who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, the President's personal space is closely guarded with his team monitoring the perimeter for any abrupt movements.
The Presidential escort unit provides security and protection to the president, the First Family, retired Presidents, the Deputy President, visiting Heads of State and Governments and any other V.I.P. as may be directed by the Inspector-General.
It is composed of bikers, personal aides and members drawn from the GSU Recce squad. The team are led by the Presidential Escort Unit commander who directs all activities, from motorcade arrangement to travel itinerary.
A middle-aged man got arrested on Thursday afternoon after trying to force his way towards President Uhuru Kenyatta while he was giving his speech during the official opening of the Lamu Port.
Security agents swang in and managed to whisk him away before he could even reach or utter a word to Mr President. The president then made light of the moment and continued with his speech.https://www.kenyans.co.ke/news/60688-uhurus-bodyguards-details-you-didnt-know-about
