"You'll Realize When It's Too Late" Lawyer Otiende Alleges What Removal of IEBC 4 Means for Kenyans

According to lawyer Otiende Omollo, the removal of four IEBC commissioners from their positions will eliminate independent commissions and the constitutional protections they have.

Instead of the four commissioners, he said that the removal was only done to "destroy the independent offices."

"It's not about the #IEBC4, but more about the erosion of constitutional protection for independent offices, such as those held by MPs, commissions, NGOs, embassies, and churches. Everyone will recognize precedent's influence once it's too late! I'll be on your side, "added he.

The four electoral commissioners who are under fire are now in the hands of President William Ruto.

The four are Justus Nyang'aya, vice-chairperson Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, and Irene Masit.

The commissioners disagreed with their chairman Wafula Chebukati on the presidential election results, hence they rejected them.

Following lengthy meetings on Thursday, the National Assembly accepted a committee report that called for their expulsions.

After opposition lawmakers had already departed the room, the majority of Kenya Kwanza-aligned MPs in the House overwhelmingly approved the committee report.

During the elections on August 9, the commissioners are charged with flagrantly violating the constitution, acting incompetently, and acting improperly.

MPs who backed the institution of a tribunal claim that the petitioners have established a preliminary case against the commissioners.
