Election in our country will be held on 9 August this year. Many people who like politics have already declared their interests in contesting for the various positions.
In Kisii County, many prominent politicians have expressed their willingness to vie for the gubernatorial position that is currently held by James Ongwae.
It should be remembered that Ongwae will be exiting office because he has already concluded his two terms in office as per the Kenyan Constitution.
Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Paul Simba Arati(ODM) and the current Senator of Kisii Prof Sam Ongeri(DAP)seem to be the front runners. Others include, former Transport Chief Administrator Secretary Chris Obure(Jubilee), Ezekiel Machogu Nyaribari Masaba MP(UDA), Mason Nyamweya (KNC), Omingo Magara (Jubilee) and Charles Chweya(ANC). But in my view, Arati who is likely to use the Orange Democratic Movement party has an upper hand given that he has been campaigning vigorously in all the Kisii Wards trying to persuade residents to choose him. At the same time, he is younger than Ongeri. Gusii residents might prefer him as compared to Ongeri who has been in Kisii politics for more than 30 years.
