Nyanza region has been always predominantly allied to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and recognise Raila Odinga as their spokes person and kingpin of the region.
As usual people cannot be the same and there are some of the politicians with different ideologies in the four counties;Kisumu,Homa Bay,Migori and Siaya.
Some of the leader who had been seen opossing ODM on different occasions are;
Zacharia Okoth Obado
The Migori governor had been at the logger heads with the Orange Democratic Movement Party due to his divergent ideologies and the rebellious nature.
Before clinching the seat in 2013 as the first governor of the county,he was the member of PDP which he defeated ODM's Akongo Oyugi.Obado accused Raila Odinga for imposing his candidate to the people, courtesy of six piece request to the voters.
Upon joining ODM,he went ahead to beat former cabinet minister Ochilo Ayako to secure the party ticket before again beating him as an independent candidate.
David Ochieng
For David Ochieng life has been about making things happen no matter how difficult or unfair life might seem to be.
David suceeded Siaya senator Mr James Orengo as a Member of parliament of Ugenya constituency in 2013 with ODM ticket before forming his own political party; Movement fo Democracy and Growth(MDG).
After 2017 elections he cited for the election malpractices accusing James Orengo for having an hand on his defeat by inciting the voters.He went ahead and petitioned to the high court that nullified the results that favoured ODM's Chris Karan and call for by election.
The election contested in 2019 ended by favouri MDG's candidate Ochieng who won by a biggest margin defeating Chris by 4000 votes.
When thanking the citizens for choosing him as their MP,he revealed tht Deputy President William Ruto suported him during the compaigns.
Ken Obura
Ken was considered as the rebel after showing romance to the rulling party side Jubilee when ODM leader Raila Odinga was running for the presidecy in 2017.
The former Kisumu central member of parliament is better off backing deputy president Dr William Ruto who seeks to succed president Uhuru Kenyatta,hoping to take credit of the votes Ruto will get in Kisumu by a securing a nomination to the government if he looses the seat.
John Olago Aluoch
He is the long time ally of Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula,he clinched the Kisumu west parliamentary seat in 2007 with ODM ticket but later fell off to join Ford Kenya Party.
In 2013 he faced the ballot on the block which is less influential in the region and went ahead to win for the second time.The same happened in 2017 when the lawyer defeated ODM candidate Mr John Awiti.
Olago is one of the wealthiest leaders in the region proudly the owner of Maboko island in lake Victoria.
