The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission lists the number of reports made to the DPP and its recommendations in the Kenya Gazette dated 3rd December 2021 in its quarterly report for the period ending on 30th September 2021.
One such investigation details how Bungoma county assembly officials colluded with a hotel in Kisumu County to obtain more than 500,000 shillings fraudulently.Investigations revealed that the Bungoma County Assembly Agriculture Committee vide a memo dated 6th December 2017 expressed the need for a retreat at Joventure Hotel for three days from 8th - 10th December 2017. The seminar was to be attended by 25 members of the County Assembly.However, MCAs did not attend the retreat. Despite the non-attendance by the MCAs, the County Assembly of Bungoma paid Joventure Hotel KSh. 510,000/=.
On 8th July 2021, a report was written and forwarded to the DPP, recommending that officials of the Bungoma County Assembly, Joventure Hotel, be charged with conspiracy to commit an economic crime and fraudulent acquisition of public property. Abuse of office and dishonest use of public funds to pay for a service not provided.
