According to recent sources, there is a mass flight of members from the current ruling Jubilee party, which has sparked alarm in Uhuru's Jubilee party.
Five governors and a number of members of parliament defected from the Jubilee party to form the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), endangering the Jubilee party's viability.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed that several governors and MPs from the Mount Kenya region begin political campaigns to promote Odinga's presidential candidacy.
According to the reports, the mass exodus from the Jubilee party will have an impact on Raila Odinga's ambitions to wrest control of the Mount Kenya area from DP William Ruto.
Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri has joined UDA, as have Lee Kinyanjui of Nakuru, Nderitu Muriithi of Laikipia, Francis Kimemia of Nyandarua, and James Nyoro of Kiambu, who appear to be planning an alliance.
