Kenya Kwanza Alliance has distanced itself from the current high cost of living in the country, urging Kenyans to blame the situation on President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Tharaka-Nithi county, Ruto's close ally, Professor Kithure Kindiki, claimed that Kenya Kwanza takes no responsibility for the current economic crisis in the country.
"We take no responsibility for what has taken place between 2017 and now," said Kindiki.
According to him, Raila is the current "Deputy President" and he and the president should carry the cross.
"The responsibility for the skyrocketing prices of food lies squarely with the legally elected President and the illegitimate appointed Deputy President called Raila," he added.
High Cost of living
His remarks comes as Kenyans continue to struggle with increased cost of living in the country. Food prices have skyrocketed with a two kilo packet of maize flour clocking past Kshs 200.
The government however claims that the current situation is a global phenomenon which shouldn't be politicized.
In a past interview, Statehouse Spokesperson Kanze Dena claimed that the high cost of living is as a result of external factors such as the novel Coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
The president also urged politicians to offer solutions rather than politicizing the issue which is affecting the common people.
