The Kenya national Union of teachers currently is struggling for membership after the Teacher Service Commission allowed teachers to freely withdraw their membership from the Union. In 2019 September, the members who had subscribed to the union were almost 180000. By the end of last year,it was reported that the members had reduced to15000.
Today, Governor Mandago revealed what made the union to lose its popularity.Mandago says , Wilson Sossion is his closet friend but failure to hid to his advice weakened the union.
"At one time I had attended the funeral with the KNUT secretary general Wilson Sossion.I told him it is good to have demands. But sometimes if you are too demanding you might lose at the end."
The governor also claimed the former Prime Minister Raila should be blamed for KNUT failures. After 2017 general election,ODM party nominated Sossion to be a member of Parliament.Mandago says ,it was the beggining of Sossion downfall. He argue that a good unionist leader should distance himself from politics and concentrate on representing the union demands.
Do you agree with Mandago that appointment of Sossion to the National Assembly is main reason why KNUT has collapsed?
